My Money Story…

One of my favorite things to talk about with my clients and my tribe is money and how to manifest more.

It doesn’t come from some selfish, greedy obsession with money and all it can do, but instead comes from my desire to teach and share what I have learned in my own life.  So, today I’m sharing with you my money story.  The story of how I have managed to change my thoughts about money to not only manifest more abundance, but also to feel more free no matter how much money I have.

It’s been a journey and I am still working my way through it, but my hope is that by sharing my story with you, that it will help shift your mindset around money.

A little about my past…

I grew up in a single parent household with my siblings and a mother who worked non-stop and sometimes multiple jobs to just to make ends meet.  We had what we needed for the most part and didn’t go without for the most part, but it was a stretch and I was keenly aware of how tight money was.

When I was old enough to make my own money, I immediately got a job…well actually two.  I had seen my mom work hard and I thought that was just what you needed to do to make ends meet.  That belief followed me through college and into the corporate world where I got my first ‘real’ job.

I worked my day job and immediately picked up a second (and third) job on the side.  Seems crazy right?  Who needs 3 jobs when you are essentially living with hand me downs and have a roommate?

I’ll tell you who…a woman who had a lack mindset and who thought that in order to survive you had to work really, really hard.

It didn’t matter how much money I made, I always felt like it wasn’t enough and with that thought process it wasn’t.  I created situations (unknowingly) that would cause me to barely make ends meet no matter how much I was making.

I created my money reality based on my money story.  The story I told myself and that I learned growing up that making money was hard.

It wasn’t until I really began working on my mindset around money that I started to see the truth about money (and all things).  Money is just a form of energy and when we believe we are lacking in abundance and that ‘there’s never enough’, then we attract those situations that prove that to us.  The ‘never enoughness’ doesn’t go away.  We have to work at it.

And boy was I ready to work on it…or win $15 million dollars whichever came first.

In addition to studying the art of manifesting using the Law of Attraction (which I did very well with and manifested almost $5000 within a few weeks), I also stumbled upon various teachers that help with money mindset.

The one that changed everything for me was Denise Duffield-Thomas.  If you don’t know her, you need to!  She is a money mindset teacher, guru, and all around amazing women that teaches women how to shift the underlying money stuff we all have going on.

Don’t think you need a mindset shift around money?  We all have a money story, have you looked at yours lately?

Answer these for me.

Do you ever feel like there isn’t enough?

Feel jealous or frustrated because others have more than you?

Think rich people are ‘greedy’ or ‘selfish’?

If you said yes to even one of the questions above, you could use a mindset shift.  And let’s be completely honest here…who couldn’t use a little (or a lot) extra money in their pocket?

Life is meant to be enjoyed and experienced and loved.  Money allows us to do just that and when you open your mind to how money can flow, clear the mindset blocks that are in the way, life is amazing.

The number 1 biggest shift I have made that has shifted everything for me financially as been my mindset.  What I now know about money is this…

Money and abundance is everywhere.  It doesn’t require as much blood, sweat, and tears as we believe and it can come with ease and grace.  The moment we settle back, relax, trust, and take inspired action doing what we love and following our hearts, the easier it flows.  It’s a resource and we are ALL entitled to money, not just a few lucky people, but it is up to us to shift our mindsets in order to make room for the money.

In the process I have stumbled upon some amazing books, practices, & products that have changed my life.  They are things I often suggest to my clients because I like to share the love.  It’s that simple.

So, today I share with you a list of things I not only love, but things that have changed my life for the better.

 

All time favorite book….

Inspired & Unstoppable: Wildly Succeeding in Your Life’s Work! by Tama Kieves
It is the book I go back to over and over again when I need a little reminder to follow my inspiration & intuition.  I love it so much I actually ran a giveaway earlier this year to gift a copy to one lucky winner.  This book will change how you think of success and it will reinforce what you already know and what I have been sharing with you for as long as I have been writing and that is…Follow Your Heart. Always.  If you are just setting out on your journey to freedom and the living the life of your dreams, this is the book for you.

 

For setting intentions & tracking progress…

I adore Leonie Dawson for her creative brilliance & her authenticity and the moment I found her 2014 Create Your Amazing Year Life & Biz Workbook, I fell in love with it.  Everything in that workbook lights me up.  It is full of amazing artwork, insightful questions, practical tips, and magical rituals to help you make your year amazing.  She is making some upgrades to it for 2015 and I can’t wait for it to be available for purchase.  If you are looking for something a bit more creative and fun to use as you plan your year ahead, I highly encourage you to check it out.  (I’ll share reminders once the 2015 version is available!)

 

For money mindset & manifesting…

Another woman I simply adore is Denise Duffield-Thomas.  I have been following her for about a year now and when I was ready to learn a bit more about releasing my old worn-out beliefs about money, I jumped right into her Lucky Bitch Money Bootcamp.  To say that it changes your life is a gross understatement.  It not only changed my relationship with money, but how I think of it altogether.  She covers everything from upgrading your life to dealing with past money memories and releasing the money blocks that we all have.  I also have to say that the Lucky Bitch community has been amazing!  There are so many incredible people who have joined the program that makes this program so special.  This has been by far one of the best investments I have made in myself.  If you are considering a manifestation course, I highly encourage you to check this out & you can even get a taste of what she teaches in her Money in 24 Hours audio for free.

 

For clearing & releasing blocks…

This year was the first time I had ever done anything with EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).  I had heard about it for years, but never tried it until early this year.  It might seem a little weird to you if you have never tried it, but the results are amazing.  I tap just about every day and it has changed my life.  I have used it for anxiety, frustration, fear, money mindset junk, and so many other issues I have dealt with in this last year and it instantly shifts how I am feeling.  If you are interested in some high vibrational ways to shift from fear to confidence or from lack to abundance, check it out.  I’ve included a few of my favorite EFT practitioners and their videos for you to take a look at.  Let me know your thoughts.

What do YOU want?

With the release of the Unleash Your Personal Power e-course that starts tomorrow, I have had this consistent question come up for myself and my clients over and over again.  And if you know me, you know that when I see a theme appear, I take notice.

The theme this time boils down to one question: “What do YOU want?”

It seems like a simple enough question, but when was the last time you asked yourself that?  It seems we are far more tapped into what we think we need as opposed to what we want in life.  Add to that questions like:  What do you want…to feel, to see, to experience, to be, etc., and the question can get a bit convoluted.

I know on any given day, I am more likely to share with someone what I ‘need’ to get done rather than what I actually need or want for that matter.  Ask me what I want and I might be stumped for a moment if I am so far entrenched in my ‘have to’ list.

Why is that?

really want, it feels foreign and often uncomfortable.  It is of course necessary to feel the discomfort in order to move through it and identify what it is we truly want.

The truth is this:  You have the ability and power to make your life happy, just as you have the ability and power to make your life less than happy.  You can choose to thrive or simply survive.  The choice is yours to make.  However, if you are merely surviving what life throws your way then you are not really harnessing the unlimited power you have within to make this life amazing and magical.  It may be that you don’t have the tools, practices, confidence, or knowledge you need to use that power.  And if you fall into that boat then I assure you the Unleash Your Personal Power is the course for you.

Seeking Balance Amongst the Chaos

I have to admit that I am generally a person of extremes.  When it comes to my time commitments, I generally have found myself either super busy or super bored.  I don’t do it intentionally, but it happens more often than not and I find myself desperately seeking excitement or desperately seeking peace and I am almost never in a space where I feel balanced.

That is going to change very soon.

I currently have a full plate and while much of the fullness is the result of my own expectations and choices, I still have a lot going on.  In addition to finishing up my last 7 weeks of my current full-time job (eek!), I am also taking on a bit more freelance work, building my business layer-by-layer, coaching a few clients, and tending to my family.  Did I mention I am also looking for other work on and off and trying to figure out where I will end up come January 2014?  Needless to say my schedule is full.

I am proud to say I haven’t reached a point of total overwhelm, but sometimes I feel like I am aimlessly juggling noodles which if you haven’t tried is not an easy task.

I know that many of you are going through similar challenges.  You are venturing into the land of your dreams while still handling your current responsibilities so it can get a little crazy.  The good news is it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.  Below I have come up with a few tips to help create more balance and to ease the chaos.  These are steps that I plan on implementing and I hope you find them helpful too!

  1. Brain dump- Write down every single thing you need to do.  You may choose to do this daily, weekly, or monthly but the key is to get every thing down on paper so you don’t have to remember it all.  You might want to divide the list into categories.  For instance, you might have Work, Business, Home, etc. and list all the tasks you need to complete and by when (if there is a deadline).
  2. Learn to say NO– Too often we find ourselves saying yes to every invitation and opportunity that comes up even when it is something we don’t really want to do. It’s ok to say no sometimes.  Heck it’s ok to say no a lot of the time if it isn’t in line with what you want for your life.  Before you go adding another item to your list, think about whether it will add value to your life and your vision.  If it is simply a time filler, say no and move onto something that you are inspired to do.
  3. Cut the fat- Go through the list you just created and figure out what you can get rid of.  Are there things that someone else can do for you?  For instance, if you have on your list to “fall clean” for the holidays, maybe you can hire someone to come in and do that for you.  Get creative and figure out what you can drop now and more importantly think of the things you can put in its place that are more enjoyable and more aligned with your vision.  If you can be writing two chapters for your upcoming novel in the time it takes to clean your house from top to bottom, by all means hire someone!
  4. Listen to your body- I have learned that when I am overwhelmed with the tasks I have to do I often feel tension and stress in the center of my chest.  When I start feeling that way I know I need to take a step back and relax.  Sometimes I go for a walk, meditate, or take a nap.  The key is to notice how your body responds to stress and not only listen, but respond to what you need in that moment.  I guarantee if you listen you will find you need to take a break.
  5. Ask yourself what do you WANT to do- This may seem counter-intuitive when you have a lot going on, but doing something that you truly want to do can give you enough energy to get through 2-3 more tasks on your list.  If you aren’t used to asking yourself what you want to do, set scheduled check-in times.  Stop what you are doing, be still, and feel for the answer.  Are you hungry?  Thirsty?  Tired? Antsy? What do you want to do?  You might be surprised at what you get.
  6. Have fun- This one is a big one.  Despite all the things we put on our plate even after we cut the fat, we need to make sure to make room for fun.  Do things that you want to do simply because you enjoy them.  Do you want to go to a museum or a concert?  Feel like going dancing?  Do it!  You might just find that following your inspiration to just enjoy yourself may lead you to the very next piece you need to keep moving forward.
