Inspiration Round-Up

December 5, 2013 by Lamisha

It has been awhile since my last Inspiration Round-up and I am long overdue especially with so many awesome and inspiring things I have run into recently. So, sit back, relax and enjoy a bit of inspiration on the house!

Articles of Interest:

  • If you want to know what it’s like behind the scenes of a highly successful entrepreneur/life coach, check out Michelle Ward’s post that gives readers the inside scoop on what a typical week looks like for her. It seriously made me re-evaluate how I balance my days between day-job and midnight-hustle.
  • Are you putting a particular project off more and more each day, knowing you really need to get busy on it?  Check out how Jess Lively made her pending project first priority each day.  Such a simple practice that really works. (I even implemented it myself!)
  • Wanna feel better about where you are in your dream journey/business/path to fulfillment?  Rebecca Tracey shares how she got started in her business and how lowering her expectations actually caused an increase in her courage and ability to pursue what was right for her.  It’s incredibly inspiring and if at times you feel like you have no idea what is going on, it will make you feel better I promise.

Books to blow your mind:

  • I just started reading Inspired & Unstoppable by Tama Kieves and with each new chapter she manages to tap into my heart and soul a little deeper.  Her quotes have me thinking “Yes!!!” and I’m only a few chapters in.  If you are buying yourself a gift this season, do yourself a favor and get this book.  I can already tell this is going to be a life/business/game-changer for me and will be a book I read again (and I NEVER read books more than once).
  • I am also hoping that Santa will deliver a book that has gotten rave reviews by many business/personal development peeps on the interwebs.  I haven’t received it yet, but I am looking forward to reading The War of Art and Turning Pro.  I sure hope Santa is reading my blog. 🙂

2014 Planning Tools:

  • I personally cannot wait to get my hands on Leonie Dawson’s 2014 Create Your Amazing Year book and planner. I have seen all kinds of rave reviews about her planners in the past and this is the first year it is available for hard copy ordering.  If you are into pretty pages with awesome illustrations to spark your inspiration and creativity I encourage you to pick one up.
  • If that doesn’t look like something you want check out this 2014 intention kit by Jessica Swift or something a bit more simple like Tiffany Han’s 2014 wall calendar. You could also sign up for Kate Swoboda’s Your Courageous Life e-letter to receive a free 2014 Courageous Living Planner.

I hope you found the above items super inspiring and helpful as you move into planning your new year.  I also want you to know that I am filling my calendar with as many FREE 60-minute coaching sessions as I can in order to do a bit of research on my client base as well as provide a little gift to anyone interested.  With that said if you would like to sign up for a free session to chat about anything and everything you might need help with…i.e. planning for 2014, working on a current challenge, getting out of cubicle hell, a current life transition, please contact me at lamisha@lifeoncedreamt.com .  I am looking to reach out to as many people as possible and am even willing to take this giving season into January.  It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s fabulous so don’t miss out!

November Theme: Gratitude & Giving

November 1, 2013 by Lamisha

Happy Friday you Darling Dreamers!

It’s the end of another week and the start of a new month!  I can’t believe in 2 months we will be moving into yet another year of wonderful goodness.  Can you feel the energy speeding up with the holidays quickly approaching?  I sure can!

I have been thinking about 2014 a lot over the last few weeks.  While each year feels like an opportunity to start anew, 2014 seems even more like a clean slate.  Maybe it has to do with my current job coming to an end and the options for the future still to be determined.

Every year around this time, I get excited for the newness and a fresh opportunity to make huge strides in my life and to make it an even better year than the one before.  I tend to do a bit of reflection on the past year to identify the growth, evolution, and lessons learned as well as figure out what I still want to work on.  Then, I might sit down to write a letter to myself for the year ahead or create a vision board of what I want to achieve (depending on how I am feeling).

Do you do any type of reflection before you set your intentions for the coming year?  I asked around to some of my friends and many of them said they haven’t even begun to think of what they want in 2014.  Have you?

If you haven’t, I encourage you to take some time to do just that.  Ask yourself the following questions:

What did I accomplish in 2013?

What lessons did I learn?

What didn’t I accomplish that I wanted to?

What was holding me back?

That last question is a big one and it may not be something you can readily identify.  Many people would answer that with a simple word : Life.

When it comes to resolutions, intentions, goals, and big dreams there are a number of things that can hold a person back.  Maybe you are fearful of failure (who isn’t?).  Maybe you have a fear of the unknown.  Some people fear success.  Others say that lack of motivation, inspiration, and a plan to do what they love is the issue.  Maybe it’s time, resources, money, connections, confidence, that is keeping you where you are.  Or maybe you have no clue what it is.

Identifying what has held you back from achieving your deepest desires is a step in the right direction.  Knowledge is power, so knowing what it is is half the battle.  The other half is knowing what to do to get through it.

As we move swiftly into the November and the holiday season, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on 2013 so far.  Don’t just identify the marks you missed, but make sure to identify the things you did well.  The good, great, and amazing moments of 2013 should be celebrated!

With that said, I wanted to let you know that I have created a theme for November and that theme is Gratitude & Giving.  With the holiday season upon us and a new year just around the corner, I wanted to extend some amazing (and FREE) opportunities/gifts for you lovely readers.  While I am planning for 2014 to be an incredible-blow-my-mind-adventure, I also want to place my focus on the abundance and beauty that is in my life in this very moment.

So, for your first gift, you can download your copy of my article : 20 Ways To Keep Your Dream Alive!  All you have to do is sign up for my newsletter and I promise NOT to send you unnecessary, boring, emails just to send them.  This list is truly my VIP list, so you are going to want to take full advantage of the awesome gifts that are coming this month.

I hope you have a magnificent weekend and as always, thanks for reading!

Love

Friday Fun…Getting to know me better.

October 18, 2013 by Lamisha

It’s Friday again and while I had some great ideas for more insightful and useful post today, I decided to do something a little different.

Last week I was nominated for a blog award for up and coming bloggers with under 200 followers (I am speeding toward 200, but who’s counting?).  I don’t always nominate other bloggers because I want to keep my posts useful for you lovely readers, but I thought it would be fun to answer some of the questions that came from that nomination.  If you have read my story, you already know a bit about how I got to where I am, but the following questions come from the lovely Janelle Lavier.  Go check out her blog and leave her some love!

10 Questions from Janelle:

1. What inspired you to write?

Well, I have always been a writer in some form or another.  I wrote poetry in high school and always had a journal in college, but I started this blog with the intention of it being a place I could begin to build my future life coaching business.  Little did I know 6 short months after starting this blog, I had an epiphany to finally fulfill my dream of being a life coach instead of making excuses.  So, here I am!

2. Your favorite color is?

Anyone that knows me well knows my favorite color is purple.  Did you know that is also a color of royalty and spirituality?  Fancy huh?

3. Your thoughts the first time you posted on your blog were?

Who wants to read what I have to say?  Turns out many more people than I thought!  Glad I didn’t quit.  🙂

4.  Fill in the blank. My high school prom was_____________?

Fun with friends, but not what you see in the movies.

5. True or False? Being an adult is better then being a kid?

False. I am constantly trying to get in touch with my childlike nature and wonder.  Life is so magical when you can do that!

6. Fill in the blank….Floor hockey to me is_________?

A foreign concept.

7. If you could have any super hero power it would be?

I would love to fly.

8. Why did you pick that power?

Because feeling the wind all around you and going where ever you want would be the ultimate idea of freedom.  Not only that, but it would definitely be good for the environment too. No pollution!

9. Have you ever broken a bone?

Nope. (knock on wood)

10. What are 2 words to describe yourself?

Passionate and Dramatic (shhh…don’t tell anyone)

A few fun facts I wanted to include about myself.

1. My name (Lamisha) is a family name.  My great-grandmother’s name was Lumisha and my mom changed the ‘u’ to an ‘a’.  Thanks Mom!!

2. I was once a tap dancing Santa in a holiday show.  I got to wear a full on beard, wig, hat, Santa suit etc., talk about an adventure!

3. I once traveled to Duluth, MN to work with a young singer on her stage presence.  It was a paid gig which was awesome for me at the time.  And it was something that scared the day-lights outta me when I decided to do it.

4.  In addition to my writing on my blog, I also write book reviews, children’s app reviews, and greeting cards-just call me Mrs. Deeds.

5.  I absolutely 100% believe that your dreams can and will come true no matter what they may be.  I have no doubt that life coaching is what I was meant to do and I want to help as many clients as possible to do the same.  Ready to get started on your plan for 2014 to make it the best it can possibly be?  Contact me to find out how you can do just that.

I have some exciting things in the works that will be available soon to help you get a jump-start on your plans for the new year.  If you want the inside scoop on what, when, and how much (hint: it’s a FREE offer), sign up for my newsletter.  I promise I will only send you really incredible offers and I will not clutter your inbox!  I am so excited to help you all get started early with your plans for the New Year.  2014 is going to be epic!!

A Lesson In Working Smarter, Not Harder

March 11, 2013 by Lamisha

Life has a way of getting pretty busy.  When you have a full-time work, freelance work, and a family to care for losing one hour like we did this weekend can seem like a disaster waiting to happen.  My full-time work is picking up (not by my choice) and my freelance work is also increasing (to my delight), as well as a recent increase in home-improvement tasks for our home is making for a somewhat hectic schedule…until now.

I have always been a list maker and great and delegating tasks, but when it comes to my own work, I can sometimes find myself flailing to keep up.  But I have since decided it is time for me to work smarter and not harder.  The biggest issue I have found recently was trying to figure out what to do with my 8 hrs of “free” time in the mornings each week.  I tried balancing it between home responsibilities and freelance work, however the home responsibilities usually won out.  The writing work would get done on lunch breaks and a few hours before bed making for a very long day and less sleep.  Two things I don’t enjoy all that much.  And since I will be adding other personal writing to my schedule (writing my first children’s book series, in addition to starting a life coaching business down the road, I figured it is best if I learn to manage my time a bit more effectively now, rather than later.

What I did?

I decided what items I needed to keep in my schedule.  One was my lunch break.  I have been having “working” lunches far too much and have missed out on several opportunities to get outside to take a walk which is causing some issue with my exercise routine (because now it is non-existent).  So I am taking my lunch breaks back.  I also found that at night-time after getting the little one to bed, the last thing I want to do is work for an additional 2 hours.  So I am taking that time back as well and allowing myself some added reading time in addition to potentially getting to bed earlier.  So when will I be doing my writing work?  In the morning.

I haven’t always been a morning person, but since my full-time job schedule has changed I have 2 days a week where I don’t begin work until 11 am providing me with an added 3 hours to do other things.  The “other things” have mostly been house related, but I am thinking that time might better be used with writing work especially when I have several projects to finish.  So, I am dedicating my mornings to whatever writing work I have and making it a point not to work on writing projects at night.

Family time, house projects, and other home related tasks will be set for the weekends.  While we do get some family time in the evenings, it isn’t nearly as much as we would like so we try to make the most of it on our weekends.  And since it isn’t fun to work 6-7 days a week, I am using the weekend as a break from writing.  Family is important to me and spending as much time with my partner and our son is something I don’t get to do nearly enough and I am not going to sacrifice that precious time for my work.

So, my new schedule begins this week.  I will provide an update next week to let you know the differences I have found not only in my efficiency, but also my stress levels.  I am optimistic to say the least.  I think this new plan will work out great and I will not only be more focused, but more relaxed and more healthy overall.

What do you do to keep a balanced home/work life?
