What Dead Grass Taught Me About Abundance

March 25, 2015 by Lamisha

greengrass

A few years ago we were blessed enough to manifest an amazing house on a corner lot.  My wife was beside herself and just couldn’t wait to create a lush, green, well-manicured lawn that would be the envy of all the neighborhood.

Within a few short months our lawn was hands down the best lawn on our block and easily the best in our neighborhood as a whole.  Every time someone walked by, they wanted to know our secret to keeping the grass so green and abundant.  My wife just smiled and said she had the magic touch.  Which she totally did until…she didn’t.

After about a year or two life happened and 1 missed fertilization quickly turned to 2 and with an extra rainy season followed by a scorching summer and an injury that caused my wife to be bed-ridden for a few months-the grass began to wither away.

What used to be lush green grass was now brown, dying patches that made use cringe at the sight.  It was bad.  We knew people were still seeing our yard, but now it was for a different reason.  The best yard on the block quickly became the worst, but we didn’t give up.

The next spring we tilled up the entire yard and planted new seedlings and within just a few weeks we say some beautiful new grass beginning to sprout up.  It took some work and a lot of positive focus, but we were finally able to get back to the beautiful lush grass that we once had…I know because I just cut it last night.

So, why am I talking about dead grass and abundance and how exactly do they relate?

Well, one thing I have found in my own life and in the lives of my clients is the fact that we ALL have experienced our version of the lush green grass.  Things flow easily and we don’t have a care in the world.  We’ve also ALL experienced a setback.  Whether it’s a large bill, an unexpected job loss or something else that didn’t go as planned-we know what it’s like to experience the dead grass.

BUT…

It’s not the lush green or the dead grass that dictates what comes next…It’s YOU.

You make a choice to give up and lose hope or to keep pushing and plant new seeds.

Now I can tell you I didn’t have much hope for our yard when every bit of grass (and even the weeds) died.  It was hard to see how it would be what it once was, but looking back we just had to keep moving forward.

And when it comes to abundance you have to do the same thing.

Regardless of how little you have in your bank account right now, you have to keep moving forward and know that it can and will change in the matter of minutes with the right mindset.

Nature doesn’t worry about having too little as it always has what it needs and you will too.  Just keep going.

If you are struggling with your abundance right now here are a few action steps to get things moving again:

  • Take stock of what you DO have and be grateful.  The Universe rewards gratitude with more to be grateful for. Get on it!
  • Make a list of ALL the ways you can think of to bring in money right now.  Don’t give me lip about whether you want to do it, just make the list and see what comes up.
  • Close your eyes and IMAGINE all the ways money can FLOW to you without you doing much of anything.  It’s possible I promise. (Just yesterday I opened what I thought was junk mail and found a $5 bill as an incentive to do an online survey.)
  • Write out your affirmations and shift your mindset. “I am a money magnet.” “Money flows to me with ease and grace.” If you get stuck, download this list I put together just for you.
  • Last but not least-Plant some seeds!! Reach out to friends and family members for ideas, contact past clients, do a quick search for odd jobs or better yet plan a yard sale.  Money is waiting to find you, so welcome it with open arms.

If you want more ideas or help with clearing your mindset around creating more abundance in your life feel free to schedule a free 30 minute consultation where I will help you come up with a personalized plan for you.

The Microscope Effect

Over the last few years, I have gotten to know this thing I call the Microscope Effect very well and the more I work with women like myself, I realize it’s not just something I am dealing with.  We all deal with it.

Let me explain.

Have you ever had those moments when you it feels like the world is opening up and swallowing you whole?  You are stressed out, fed up, and frustrated with how things are going and are unable to see the bigger picture?

You’ve zoomed in your focus to a point where all you see is the very thing that is driving you crazy and for a moment (or many) you think your life is made up of that small area that isn’t working out.

The Microscope Effect is something we all deal with on varying scales.

I’ve dealt with it in my business, my money mindset, and even my marriage.

The thing that’s broken (or seemingly broken) gets all the attention because we are natural fixers.

We aim our attention at the thing that needs to be fixed because we are used to it.  But, the problem is when we do that too much, we flit from one broken moment to the next ‘fixing’ it and if we aren’t careful we assume our entire lives are made up of broken pieces.

That’s not the case at all.

Despite what area of your life might need a bit of oil to run smoothly, it isn’t likely that it is all broken and in need of repair.

Are there moments when it seems one thing after another needs your attention? Absolutely, but the key is not to get caught up in all that and  instead focus on the stuff that IS working.

Today, I challenge you to look around at the beauty and the whole pieces of your life, no matter how small.  Zoom out your microscope so you can see the bigger picture, because if you’ve ever looked at an image really close up, it doesn’t do it justice.

Our lives are made up of many moving parts and one of the keys to living a life you love is starting where you are.  It’s not all bad, so don’t let the fixer in you convince you that it is.  Once you see the beauty around you, the pieces that need fixing don’t look quite as bad and if they are…well, you will be in a much better place to fix them.

Are you dealing with the Microscope Effect?
