5 Indications You Should Hire A Life Coach

April 25, 2014 by Lamisha

I love working with courageous, amazing, freedom-seekers and dreamers who know that life is meant to be wonderful and who are ready to take their life to the next level.  There are times when I get the feeling that some people aren’t quite sure when is the time to hire a coach, so I put together a list of 5 sure-fire ways to know you are ready to hire a life coach.

  1. You just feel stuck.-I have heard this from just about every client I have worked with.  They are trying to get their business, dream, or life to the next level and they feel like they are chasing their tail.  Stuck in a rut, in the mud, or walking in circles, these souls have thrown their hands up and yelled ‘I can’t do it alone’.  Lucky for them, they don’t have to and you don’t either!
  2. You feel scattered. – Some of my more creative souls that I coach often come to be because they have so many wonderful ideas, they just can’t seem to figure out where to begin.  They get so ‘busy’ moving from one thing to another that they don’t make much progress on any one thing. If this is something you struggle with, a coach can come in and help you untangle the web of ideas and help you take actionable steps to creating and finishing your tasks that will lead your dream and business to another level.
  3. You have made some changes on your own and are ready to take it up a notch. – There are many people who are self-studied personal development lovers (I am one of them) and there is a lot of growth you can do on your own, however at some point there seems to be a plateau of growth that happens.  Things have changed and yet there are still blind spots or blocks that need a bit of action and progress.  Working with a coach is a great way to work through those blocks that will catapult you into a new level of bliss and growth you may not have been able to reach on your own.
  4. You know there is deeper work to be done. – There are times when you just know that there is deeper work to be done.  Work that requires a special person to listen, reflect, and help you transform some of the icky, negative, and fearful thoughts and words into uplifting, gorgeous, and inspiring truths that truly reflect who you are.  This often comes at a time when people feel a general loss of direction and they know a loving shift must occur.
  5. You are ready to find your passion and purpose and love life again. -You might feel like something bigger is calling you, but you can’t quite figure it out.  Maybe it’s a new career, a new business, or a creative pursuit you have put on the back burner.  Whatever it is, you are ready to find it and live the rest of your life, free, happy, and passionate…just like it’s meant to be!

All of the above come with this disclaimer that unless you do the soul-searching, honest, and truthful work that growth and transformation requires, coaching won’t work.  There are times when clients tap into emotions, buried feelings, and beliefs that can be uncomfortable, but until you are willing to bring them to light and tell a new story, growth is stifled.  Life Coaching is a process and one that will transform your life for the better.  So if any of the above indications strike a chord within your soul for your life, business, or your dreams, I invite you to take advantage of the limited time offer I have right now.

New clients can receive 2 months of coaching (4 sessions for $300) at the current rate if you sign up for a 30-minute consultation by May 2nd.  Rates will be doubling on May 3rd, so hurry if you want to take advantage of this offer.  If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible as my calendar is filling up fast.

Teacher, Student or Both?

I have come to a point in my journey where I am realizing something that feels pretty big to me.  Something that at one point would have hit me right between the eyes as I thought ‘Huh???’.  In fact what I am realizing is also becoming a theme with many of my professional colleagues and friends who are sharing their gifts with the world.  Maybe you are going through it too on some level and if so, I want you to know you are not alone.

So what is it?

I have recently realized (or remembered as it may be) that we tend to teach the lessons we most need to learn.

Say what?!

If you are a business owner, teacher, professional, or expert of some sort it can be mind-boggling to think that you can actually teach something you still need to learn.

It sounds a bit like an oxymoron, but I am willing to bet that some of the most amazing teachers of the world were also some of the best students.  I mean even Albert Einstein was constantly learning, growing, and evolving in the middle of all his amazing scientific discoveries.

What is it that makes us believe that when we transition into the role of teacher, professional, expert, CEO, or whatever other powerful position you can come up with that, we need to know everything in order to do the job well?

I call BS on that thought because it simply isn’t true.  Not only do we teach what we most need to learn in many cases, but our own individual lessons, growth, and healing make us so great at what we do.  The fact that we have the experience, have the knowledge, know the tools, and can share them with others makes us incredible teachers!

Bottom line: You don’t have to know it all! (Whew, thank goodness for that right?)

So with that thought I share with you my lessons that I am constantly learning and teaching.

  • Flow with life.  Forcing does nothing but create resistance and resistance feels icky.  Don’t struggle, just flow with it! (This is one lesson I have the honor of reminding myself of a lot. )
  • Accept what is. There is no use worrying about the details, the moments that haven’t come yet or trying to prepare for the inevitable failure that we feel is coming.  If you accept what is right in front of you as being perfect in every way you allow solutions, magic, and miracles to appear.  So true!
  • Keep going.  This one seems a bit obvious and while I haven’t ever entertained the thought of ‘quitting’ per se, there are times when I am down in the dumps for whatever reason and instead of planning, scheming, solving, and trying to control the situation, I need to remember to breathe and keep going.  My theme of the year is ‘show up’ and when I consistently show up and remember the first two lessons, things work out rather nicely.
  • Self-care is monumental.  I am learning to listen to my body far more than I have in the past.  A previous people-pleaser and overall achiever, I often felt guilty when I wasn’t busy doing something.  It really didn’t matter what that was either.  Now I am providing myself with more compassion and love so when I feel the need to take a break from Facebook or take a nap to fill up my tank, I do it and don’t feel the least bit guilty (most of the time).

Do you find you learn many of the same lessons that you teach?  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.  Let’s learn together!

Purple People, I’m One…Are You?

January 13, 2014 by Lamisha

Chances are if you are reading this you are one of the purple people.  I am not talking about the Oompa Loompa people from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory either.

When I say purple people, I am referring to the dreamers, healers, creatives, writers, and other artists of the world that Tama Kieves talks about in her book Inspired & Unstoppable.  These are the people who dare to forge their own path to success and don’t need to follow in the steps of someone else.  The truth is every person in the world can be a purple person, but for far too long we have been taught to follow tasks, plans, parameters, and success principles of others and have forgotten how to tap into our intuition and inspiration for guidance.

When was the last time you felt for the right decision instead of consulting some plan or to-do list that you have written down?purplepeople

I have to say that when you are taught not to trust your own instincts it can be hard to believe in yourself to know what is the right way…for YOU.

I think I have always known that I was a ‘purple person’ or at least that I was different.  Having done all the things I was supposed to do in life, I fully expected some moment when all the hard work would result in pure bliss, but something was always missing.

I used to say I had two parts of myself that struggled against one another.  On one hand I was a responsible, level-headed, and logical person that was always striving to do what was “right”.  On the other hand I had a free, creative, and adventurous spirit that was calling me to do something more.  Whenever I had to make a decision the two parts collided to create a wave of confusion and frustration.  I was stuck.

Even after making the choice to follow my own path and I began coaching others to do the same, I find the logical voice still creeps in during times of uncertainty.

Am I doing it the right way?  Is this how a business is supposed to run?  Do I have all the marketing and business know-how to succeed?

The answer is yes.  Do I have all the answers I need right this very minute?  Nope. But, I am ok with knowing and trusting that I will find my way as long as I stay open and true to my intuition.  Things fall into place at exactly the right time and if it hasn’t happened yet, it’s not the right time…for me.

The same goes for you.  You will know all that you need to.  You will find your way and when you do, at first you might be amazed at how perfect it feels.  You might even try following someone else’s path and direction first and realize how hard, frustrating, and forced it feels.  That’s ok.  It’s all part of the process, but once you tap into who you truly are and the amazing wisdom that lies within, things will be a lot more clear.

Will it always be easy?

No, but it will get easier as you move forward and I promise you, the “purple people” path is about passion, fire, and following your inspired heart.

If each step feels right for you and leads you to the very next step, how can it be wrong?

Trust yourself, your dreams, and your gifts.  If you can do that all the steps in between will be clear.
