Manage Your Mindset: The How

In order to create the “more” you are looking for in life, it’s critical to manage your mindset & energy…here’s how you do that. 


When things are going really well…

Mindset: Practice the thought “This is normal. This is my new normal.” This activates new thought patterns around what is “normal” & comfortable for you so you can create more of the same in the future. The more you get comfortable with this new level of norm, the easier it is to create again.

Energetically: Focus on grounding into the neutral/normal feeling of “of course”….this is just how life works out for me. Anchor in the energy of the moment. Let your emotional body get super comfortable & secure in this potentially “new” space. Breathe into it & allow it to be your new set point. Again, this creates a sense of safety in your nervous system when things are good & you’re less likely to sabotage as things continue to get better & better.

When things aren’t going as well…

First,…feel the feels always. You cannot bypass the feelings phase of the process. You can try to, but know that they will always come back up. Feel the feelings as & don’t make them “wrong”.

Energetically: Anchor in the feeling of sufficiency/safety by creating a safe space for your nervous system to regulate. This is going to take some practice & trial/error because most of us haven’t been taught to properly regulate our nervous systems. So try things like…meditation, getting outside, cold showers, ice bath/water on the face, EFT tapping, deep breathing, grounding yourself etc. There are many ways to soothe your body so find what works for you & do it. Remember, you need to soothe the body before you set the mind. 

Mindset: When (and only when) your nervous system has been regulated, you can begin to invite new thoughts. Practice thoughts like “Huh…isn’t that interesting. I wonder what this is trying to teach me?” You can also challenge yourself to look at how this situation (as disappointing & frustrating as it might be) is setting you up for something better. Make a list of how it’s still working out for you. 

Another good question to ask is “What do I choose for this to mean to/about me?” You might choose to see that lay off as an opportunity to take the leap into your own business while you look for work in the interim etc. Find the thought/belief that provides an opening to better and better thoughts/feelings. 

These practices not only help you manage your mindset & feel better overall, but it takes you off the roller coaster ride of highs & lows depending on your circumstance.

Listen, circumstances of your life are ALWAYS going to be in flux. And yes, you are likely going to have some thoughts and feelings about them, but it doesn’t mean they have to determine your beliefs.

Breakthrough with this question…

Most clients get their greatest breakthroughs in the coaching process from the simple questions I ask them. Today, I’m sharing one that will help you get to the bottom what thoughts/beliefs are holding you back. And I promise, the question is annoyingly simple & it is the key to your next breakthrough. Ready? 
 

What does that mean to/for/about you?

You are going to use this question when you’re experiencing a situation that has the potential to send you down the rabbit hole of doom, gloom & despair. 

Example: You’re feeling really disappointed and let down because you didn’t get a job you really wanted. You felt like you did great in the interview, but yet again, you’re adding this position to the list of jobs you haven’t landed in the last few months & you’re losing hope. 

You ask yourself the above question & this is what you come up with. 

It means… 


No one wants to hire me & that I’ll never get out of this crappy job that I can’t stand.
I don’t have the experience, connections or skillset to make more money.
That I’m not good enough & I’ll always be struggling financially. 
I’m not as good as I thought. 


Everything that you listed above are just indicators for the meaning & beliefs you are attaching to this event. 
 

Remember, nothing means anything other than the meaning you give it.
AND it’s only true if you believe it.


So, with that simple question you’ve hit mindset gold & the key to your next breakthrough.

You can clearly see the thoughts/beliefs that have been holding you back & now you can change them. Better yet, I’d encourage you to change the meaning altogether. 

Example: Maybe you didn’t get the job because there is something so much bigger & better than you can even imagine waiting for you.

It pays more, gives more time off & allows you to work from home (unlike the others you’ve applied for). Not only that it literally lands in your lap without a million interviews & negotiations.


(Sidenote:  The last job I had actually happened as I just described so trust me when I say…this stuff is real!)

The point here is that this question gives you so much power to change your thoughts, beliefs & feelings, so they work for you (instead of against you).

It also keeps you off of the crazy roller-coaster ride of emotions that can happen when you give SO much meaning to the things happening around you. You can use it for virtually anything & it’s going to give you a ton of data about how you are thinking/believing & give you an opportunity to change it. 

I highly recommend you use it & use it often.

This is your only job..

A few things you need to know about your brain…

1. Your brain is obsessed with searching for certainty & will often shut shit down in a nanosecond when things don’t feel like a sure thing.

Spoiler…all new things are going to put your brain on high alert because they are uncertain & new. Your job is to manage the mind drama & act anyway.

The goal of mindset work is NOT to completely eliminate mind drama. Instead it’s to manage it & continue to take inspired action in order to move forward.

If you have a brain, you have mind drama.

If you have things you want to do (especially if they are new), you have mind drama.
 

2. Your brain is also almost always going to overestimate the difficulty of something new, so much so, that too often you ending up quitting before you begin.

This week I’ve challenged my clients to flip the script in their mind & we debunked a whole lot of “But it’s going to be hard” with these 2 questions.

–> Is it true? (Spoiler it’s never ultimately true.) Is it true that it’s going to be hard and/or impossible for you to figure out? No it’s not.

AND

–> What if it could be easy & or easier than your brain is currently assuming? (It can & I challenge you to imagine how it can be.) In fact, I encourage you to make a list of all the ways it could be easier. 

Listen…your brain isn’t trying to screw up your progress. It’s just doing what it does when it’s left to it’s own devices. It jumps into protective mode & seeks to keep you “safe” the best way it knows how. 
 

YOUR job when you’re doing anything that feels big, scary or new is to learn to manage your mind drama, be intentional about expanding your belief in yourself & keep moving forward. 

That’s really it & it’s exactly what I teach you to do consistently & in a way that feels much easier than your brain can even imagine right now. 

It’s time to stop letting your mind drama win & convince you to give up on yourself before you even begin.

You were made for more & you know it. The question is what are you going to do about it? This is a good place to start.

What’s holding you back…

What’s holding you back? I promise, the thing you *think* is the reason or problem that is keeping you from getting to where you want to be, isn’t likely the thing at all. 

In fact, in my almost 10 years of working with clients I can guarantee that what you think is the problem, isn’t the problem at all. It’s not that you don’t have enough money, the skills, insights, time, energy or experience to get to where you want to be. It’s not even the fear, doubt & insecurity that’s holding back. 
 

The biggest mistake you’re making (& the thing that is holding you back more than anything) is simply that you’re underestimating yourself.


The reason?

You just don’t see the truth of who you are & the value you innately have because of the mind drama your brain creates.

All of the thoughts like…

“I don’t know how.”
“It just doesn’t work for me.”
“I’ve tried everything.”
“But I’ve never done it.”
“I’m not enough.”


…are limiting you in ways you don’t even realize.

It also shows up as talking yourself out of the *big* ideas that light you up or preparing for failure & creating an alternate plan before you even begin. It shows up when you find yourself too “busy” or distracted from the very things you want to do & when you make a long laundry list of “reasons” your thing probably isn’t going to work out. 
 

Listen, you’re underestimating yourself & it’s not your fault. It’s your brain just doing what brains do, to try and keep you “safe”. 


The good news is that the solution is simple & it’s to think differently about yourself intentionally. 

How much time do you spend intentionally thinking thoughts like “I can absolutely figure this out. This is not a problem. I’m already on my way. Things are falling into place. I’m already the woman to gets to (fill in the blank)?

If you’re not doing that already, let today be the day that changes! It will be the absolute BEST thing you can do for yourself moving forward. 

It’s time to SEE yourself for who you truly are & put all that power to work to create more of what you want.

Do that intentionally for the next few weeks & watch how things transform for you! 
Do it with support for the next 6 months & you won’t recognize yourself (in the best way possible).

Remember things change quickly when you see yourself as the powerful YOU that you are. 

It’s time for you to SEE yourself for who you really are.

How to stop overthinking…

You want to stop overthinking & shift things quickly in your life…do this. 

Spend way less time swirling in your mind around making the “right” decision & do this instead.–> Decide & execute.

Overthinking all the things as you weigh the options of what is the best idea and how it will impact you 5 steps ahead is a sure fire way to keep you right where you are.
 

Decide & execute…here’s why. 


There are no inherent “right” & “wrong” decisions on your path & most of the time your gut instinct/decision before fear kicks in is the best for you right now. (But even then “best” doesn’t mean if you choose something else you’re doomed).

One of the most powerful things you can do is decide that the next step is the right step when you feel it.

Decide that your next step be in an investment in yourself, your decision to start the business, change jobs, move etc. is the right move for you now & do it. Trust yourself.

All the back & forth is keeping you stuck & stalling your progress.
 

Instead of doing that ask yourself…

What do I want? Does step/action/investment get me closer to what I want?


If the answer is yes…& it feels good for you. Do it. And if you can’t get on board with it don’t do it, but decide fully either way.

At the end of the day the greatest gift you can give yourself (besides deciding to stop overthinking) is TRUST YOURSELF.

What do you need to decide & execute today? Get busy.
