My Big Aha: It’s time to break your cadence!

Can we all just agree that 2019 has been a bit weird so far? I’m going to chalk it up to the eclipses, crazy weather and school closings in my neck of the woods, but feel free to use those if they work for you too. 

Anyway, as I work my way back to some semblance of a routine and get back to my regularly scheduled messages to YOU, I was super inspired to share my most recent aha that hit me just this morning.  

 
My big aha: It’s time to BREAK your CADENCE!

Now for some context.

Last week, I started a new workout program that is only 20 minutes a day (thank goodness for that!).  The focus is all about transforming your body & your MIND because you can’t really have one without the other. 

Each day Shaun T (the trainer) provides these incredible messages throughout the workout to inspire you to keep going, push harder, and expand beyond what you think you can do. 

Well, today’s message was all about getting into the rhythm of your step and then going BEYOND that rhythm.  It was about breaking through your plateaus and moving beyond what’s become comfortable for you. 

You see, today’s workout was all about SPEED.  I’ll be the first to tell you I really hate cardio and I generally don’t choose high intensity programs because I know how challenging they are on my body.  But the REASON I decided to start this program was to push myself beyond where I thought I could go. 


If you want to EXPAND, you have to be willing to move BEYOND your comfort zone.

In other words you have to be willing to step out of your rhythm in your mind and your body in order to do something DIFFERENT. 

Each time I found myself getting into a “comfortable” rhythm with my workout today, I pushed myself out of the cadence.  I pushed myself to go a little harder and a little faster to test my limits and you know what I found?  I COULD go further.  I COULD do more.  I COULD take it up a notch!   

After my workout, those words “It’s time to break your cadence.” kept replaying in my mind and I couldn’t help but wonder where else it might apply. 

If I’ve been holding myself back a bit in my workouts, where else have I been holding myself back?

In business?
In my mindset?
In my finances?
In building new relationships?
In new opportunities?

If I’m completely honest, I think I’ve probably been playing it safe in all of those areas and it changes TODAY.

You can do more than you THINK, sometimes you just need a little push.

If you’ve ever worked with me, you’ve probably heard me say this before, but I am living proof!  

The very REASON people hire coaches, trainers, and mentors is because when you actively INVEST in the support, you push yourself beyond your comfort zone and EXPAND in pretty amazing ways. 

It’s also the reason I am a firm believer in always investing in yourself whether that’s your business, health/fitness, personal growth or other areas of your life.  By doing so you almost always will go further than you ever could alone.

So, as I ponder how I can continue to break the cadence in my own life, I want you to answer a few questions for yourself in hopes that they will inspire you to take the leap you didn’t know you needed in order to EXPAND in 2019. 

A few questions for YOU…
 
• Where have you been playing it safe that is no longer serving you?
• What are you willing to do differently in order to transform your life?
• What areas of your life do you need the extra push to move forward?
• What happens if you don’t push yourself?


Are you ready to EXPAND & finally break the cadence?
 

If you answered YES to that last question, it’s time for us to have a little chat. 

One thing I know for sure is that we can’t keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results.  And no matter how many times you SAY you want to change your life, if you don’t take consistent action & transform your mindset, nothing is going to change.
 

Nothing changes, if nothing changes.

YOU have to be willing to shake things up and try something different. 
YOU have to be willing to show up for yourself.
YOU have to be willing to invest (time, money, energy etc.) in yourself.

YOU have to be HONEST about whether you’ve been going ALL IN or not and then DO something about it, if you haven’t been. 

It’s all up to you.  Right here, right now you have all the power to transform your life in all kinds of amazing ways and it all starts with a choice to change.

2019: Is this going to be THE YEAR???

New year, clean slate and INFINITE possibilities!!!

As you can see I’m a bit behind the eight ball getting this email out to you, but it’s a bit indicative of the energy I’ve been feeling with the kick off of a new year.

Usually, I hit the round running the moment the clock strikes midnight, but this year for some reason I’m mozying into my new habits, goals, and intentions with a bit of a relaxed energy.  (Blame it on the new moon energy from this past weekend or maybe it’s the celery juice I’ve been drinking every morning for the last 10 days and it’s detoxing properties.) . Either way, I’m easing into the year and feeling (mostly) good about it. 

But as I’ve been a bit more relaxed with my intentions, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want 2019 to be about.  I guess you can say I’m a bit more intentional with my intentions ya know?

Instead of just throwing a word out there to focus on for 2019 or setting intentions I think I “should” be setting as a mother/wife/entrepreneur etc., I’ve really thought about what I want this year to be for me? 

As I was thinking about it, I also started thinking about what I wanted to FEEL in 2019 versus just what I wanted to DO and I realized I want to feel a variety of feelings including:

–> Love (both given and received)
–> Connected (to myself and others)
–> Free (in every aspect of my life)
–> Playful (less “serious” more fun)
–> Stretched (expanding my comfort zone with intention)
–> Proud (of it all)
–> Adventurous (by taking more risks)

Then I realized my word of the year encompasses ALL of these things because I want to LEVEL-UP in 2019 in my mind, body, soul, relationships, finances, and business. 

I’m still working through some of my next-best-steps for my specific intentions this year, but I’m loving the vibe that’s coming from my word (phrase) of the year.

Now, whether you set resolutions, goals, intentions or choose a word/phrase for your year or not, I believe it’s important to have some way of setting your vision for the year ahead.  After all, energy flows where your attention goes and what better way to make your vision a reality than by DECIDING what you want for the year ahead.

Is this going to be THE YEAR for you?

Is this the year you FINALLY….

–> Level-up your self-care and fitness & STICK TO IT??
–> Bite the bullet and start your business???
–> Put yourself out there to meet new people??
–> Get going on your ever-growing bucket list??
–> Get your mind right and tap into the magic that is YOU??
–> Find your passion/purpose in life and GO for it??

The answer to ALL of those questions is this…

YES it CAN be the year you do any or all of those things, but you have to DECIDE it is and then….(and this is the part that messes people up year-after-year) you have to create the HABITS to make it happen. 

But because so many people believe that building new habits is HARD, they don’t do it or if they do, the sabotage themselves a few weeks into the new habit.
 


Truth: Building habits or new beliefs isn’t a hard process, it just requires consistency and accountability until it becomes part of your ‘new-normal’.

Read that last part again (and maybe a few more times to really allow it to settle in) and then grab your journal and make a list of intentions, goals, and actions you’re READY to build new habits and beliefs around. 
 
Remember: If you’re just shifting the actions and not also shifting the beliefs around those actions, it’s going to be a lot more difficult to maintain and achieve your goals. #mindset

Happy New Year friends!

I hope you had an amazing holiday season and are ready for the magic and wonder that 2019 is sure to bring.

This is the time of year everyone is getting excited about what they want to be, have, and do in the year ahead. Have you set your goals for 2019 yet? If not, no worries there’s still plenty of time!

2018 Reflections Part 1

2018 Reflections….

I can hardly believe we are at the end of 2018 already and while it’s not quite over yet, I’m finding myself in reflection mode.  What’s interesting is I am not usually a ‘reflector’ this time of year. 

In years past, I’ve found myself flying full-speed into the next year with tons of exciting goals, intentions and plans on my plate.  But this year I’m feeling called to reflect on some key aspects and lessons of the year that I want to share with you. 

Energy:  I don’t know about you but 2018 has come with an interesting energy.  Some months were amazing and others felt incredibly challenging, but overall this year seemed to be about LESSONS. 

It almost felt like we were triggered in big ways in order to grow and evolve.  And if we didn’t learn the lesson the first time, trust and believe that bad boy came back again and again until we got it.

(Good news though: The energy of 2019 feels SO MUCH LIGHTER.  While we will still be growing and evolving next year, 2019 feels like it’s going to be about moving forward and really seeing how we can do that which is pretty exciting!)

Intentions & Actions:  I want to say that I’ve achieved all the things I set out to do in 2018, but I didn’t and that’s ok.  The truth is, I set some pretty massive intentions for the year, some of which I followed up with a plan of action (hello fitness plan!) and others I did not (my book!).  

You can probably guess which things were more successful right?  Believe me, I’ve learned my lesson!  This year when I set my 2019 intentions, I’ll be following those intentions up with a plan of action, even if it’s just the first step because I’ve learned that intention without action doesn’t work so well. 

Consistency, consistency, consistency:  Every year I read the book, The Compound Effect because it reminds me how small changes done consistently over time create massive results.  I’ve had great success with this in my mindset practice and daily workouts, but there are other areas (my financial goals + my book) where I’d like to see more expansion. 

Looking back at 2018, I can see how I allowed life hiccups to get in the way of my consistency, so the plan is to cultivate a few more habits that will help keep me on track in 2019. 

Have you taken some time to reflect on how far you’ve come and what you still need support on in the year ahead? 

If not, I highly recommend you do it asap.  It’s a pretty amazing exercise that will show you how far you’ve come and where you might need a bit of extra support for 2019.

Addicted to worry? Try this…

If you’ve ever had a personal relationship with worry, this message is for you…

I know there are a lot of people feeling the pressure of life in various ways and what I’m seeing consistently (and feeling a bit myself) is this knee-jerk reaction to worry about the things that are happening (or in some cases not happening).  It’s as if as a society we’ve decided that worrying is the miracle healer to all of the things that ail us..except it’s not.

Worry is a waste of our time, effort, and energy.

It steals our joy, sanity, and peace as it tries to convince us that if only we spent a bit more time thinking and figuring it all out, we can finally come up with a solution.  (Did I mention it’s also kind of a liar??)

The thing about worry is that it DOES have power.  Manifesting power to be exact because anything we think and feel consistently over a period of time will manifest in our reality.  So…whenever you worry about not having enough time, money, or energy to do it all…that is exactly what you manifest!

 

Worry is a wish for the very thing you don’t want.

For the vast majority of us, worrying is just a mind habit that we desperately need to break.  It’s the thing we go back to time and time again because in some weird way it makes us feel like we have some semblance of control.  It provides the illusion of power over a situation or circumstance, when in reality it makes things worse.

So what should you do when you find yourself falling into worry?

As soon as you notice you are worrying (and therefore manifesting something you likely don’t want), I want you to DECIDE to do something different.

Make a different choice.  Instead of worrying about that situation, make a conscious decision in that moment to release all worry, fear, and anxiety about that situation and to TRUST that it’s all working out for you.

Shift your focus to something else entirely.  Listen to some good music, have a dance party with your kids, turn off your television and go for a walk…basically do anything else that will take your mind off that thing you’re worried about.

If you can shift it early enough you may even be able to talk yourself down with affirmative statements with something like this…

 

“I release all worry over (insert situation).  I trust that everything is working perfectly for me in this second and I will know what I need to do when the time is right.  The Universe has my back and I know it’s all working in my favor.  I choose love and peace now and forever more.  Everything can change in an instant and I don’t have to know the how.  It’s all working out for me.  Always in all ways.”

You can also add a bit of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping to the mix to help release the worry and anxiety a bit more if you want.

The idea is to build a new habit of thinking that FEELS better and helps you manifest more of what you want and less of what you don’t.

Now, you’re not likely to become a totally zen person who never worries overnight, but with a bit of practice and mindfulness you will begin to see a huge shift in how you feel and in the world around you.

Remember, no matter what you are faced with and no matter how hard or impossible the situation seems, you always have the power to DECIDE.

Decide to shift your thoughts and try a different path.

Decide to trust instead of doubt and I promise your life will transform.

And the best part is you will FEEL better almost immediately which will set the wheels in motion for all the things you desire to begin manifesting as well.

As Glinda the Good Witch says…

“You’ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself.” 

And that my friends is what this life is all about…learning about the power we truly have.
