I am so excited to introduce the Unleash Your Personal Power e-course that I am co-hosting with 3 other amazingly talented women from around the world!

Embrace (12)

It’s time to give yourself permission to enjoy what life has to offer.  To THRIVE instead of merely survive.  To tap into your creativity and do more of what you love.  That’s the kind of life you deserve.  Don’t you think it’s about time to Unleash Your Personal Power?  I certainly do!

What is Your Olympic Moment?

February 21, 2014 by Lamisha

olympics

For as long as I can remember, I have always been a huge fan of the Olympics.  I have always been amazed at the inspiration, the power, and drive the athletes have to accomplish their dreams.  In fact, I was so enthralled with the 1996 Summer Olympics (particularly when the gymnasts were performing), that I decided not to be in the room when my brother was born. (The Olympics being on and the fact that I was 14 and totally freaked out by the idea of being in the room 🙂 )

The 2014 Winter Olympics are no different.  I’m still inspired, uplifted, and amazed at what these dreamers are accomplishing and many at such young ages.

So, this weekend while watching the figure skating competition and hockey (which I have never been interested in), I began thinking about my own ‘Olympic moment’ and yours too!

If we could dissect how each individual Olympic athlete started out and how they got to where they are now, what do you think we would find?

Would we find skiers who always wanted to do amazing tricks on the half-pipe or figure skaters that were just naturally talented at doing the swizzle spin?

My guess is we would find regular people who found something they loved to do and just kept doing it.

In fact, they probably followed their inspiration and followed it with focus and action to get to where they are now.  Did they all set out to be Olympic Champions?  Maybe, maybe not.

But what I know for sure is that they absolutely love what they do.  If they didn’t, they certainly wouldn’t do the things they do every day to make their dreams come true.

So, I ask you this.  What is your Olympic moment?  Is it when you get your business off the ground or when your book gets published?  Maybe it’s when you finally quit that job you have hated for years to pursue your artwork full-time.

Whatever it is, I have a feeling that it can and will evolve.  Once you reach one moment, a new dream, challenge, or passion will look enticing and you will set a new goal.  It’s natural, it’s life, and it is what makes this journey so amazing.

For the athlete striving to make it to the Olympics, their moment might be to simply qualify and then to move into the finals and eventually win a medal or defend their title.

Like every Olympic athlete, do what you love and follow your passion.  Use your inspiration and follow it up with action. Believe in yourself!  I know you can make it to whatever your ‘Olympic moment’ may be, but the important thing is that YOU know that.

Go, dream, do! and then do it all again.

I’ll be looking for you on the podium 🙂

The Big, Ugly, Green-Eyed Monster

February 5, 2014 by Lamisha

We have all had this experience at one time or another right?  You have an amazing dream, you work hard for it, you have a passion that runs deep, yet you keep running up against brick walls and speed bumps.  And then as you open your Facebook page to drown your sorrows in some mindless news feed scrolling, you see the amazing things everyone else is doing. (What?!)

You see business posts about how someone just made a bajillion dollars within their very first day of launching a new program.  Someone else just had a baby and is now rockin’ a beach body with 6-pack abs and don’t get me started on the other people taking amazing vacations, getting job promotions, and landing free tickets to their favorite show.  All the while you feel like pulling your hair out because you can’t get your website to look right, your clients won’t call you back, and your dog just puked on the rug.  (Insert a string of expletives here.)

You wonder how it can be so easy for everyone else and not for you.  You question what you are doing wrong and as shallow as it might sound, you want what they have…and you want it yesterday!

Can I tell you a secret?envy

You are not alone.  Everyone has had their own experience with the big, ugly, green-eyed monster, especially when things feel like they are taking a turn for the worst. I’ve been there and the reason I am writing this post now, is because I found my own green-eyed monster poking it’s ugly head out a bit recently and I don’t like it.

Step one in dealing with the monster is recognizing it.  Step two is realizing that everyone has their own version and you are not alone.  Step three, dismantle it.

But how?

I think we all know that the face we put on Facebook and other social media platforms isn’t always 100% accurate right?  I mean, sure people post their best statuses and best pictures during times when things are going well, but that doesn’t accurately depict what is really going on in their lives.  And even if their lives are all shiny diamonds and gorgeous rainbows, there really is no reason to compare.

Take your big dream for example.  It’s YOURS.  It’s unique, exciting, and dipped in all your amazing-ness because it is your dream, not someone elses.  Their path to success isn’t going to be the same for you and let’s be honest, how they define success might not be the same either.  For one person success is being able to live a minimalist lifestyle with their family at home while another is being able to travel the world on a whim.  Your dreams, your goals, your success, are all yours.  You get to dictate what it looks like, how it feels, and what that means to you.

That sounds all fine and good but when it feels like things are going nowhere and your dreams have grown stagnant, their lives sound really good.  So what about that?

In my own experience (just this past week), I have had to identify where the green-eyed monster was coming from.  Is it really about what they have or is it a lack that you feel regardless of the comparison?  Is it because they are so much further than you or are you worrying about something that has yet to come?

Understanding the core issue to envy is key, but it can be hard to pinpoint especially when you are in the throes of it.  Here are a few things to remember when dealing with your own big, ugly, green-eyed monster:

  • “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Theodore Roosevelt – This is by far one of my favorite quotes because it is so true.  We don’t know much about what other people have going on or what it took for them to get to where they are today.  It isn’t fair to you and your dreams to compare your progress, journey, or pain point to someone else.  Be easy with yourself and trust that things are working out exactly as they should.
  • Bring yourself back to this moment.- Every time we focus on a future (or past) moment in time, we are not allowing ourselves to truly be in this moment.  Envy is the same.  When we are looking at what others have and we don’t or when we are wishing, wanting, and desiring to be anywhere other than where we are, there is opportunity for a disconnect.  But, when we are in this moment and can accept it just as it is, then there is no comparison or room for envy.
  • Trust– A big part of making your dreams become a reality comes down to trust.  Trusting your intuition, your gift, and your path and reminding yourself that you will have all the things you need to make your dreams come true in due time.  There may be lessons to learn, people to meet, or opportunities to accept that will lead you to the very next step and being envious how it worked out for someone else is a waste of energy.  Trust the process.
  • Celebrate the success of others– I understand sometimes the last thing you want to do is celebrate the success of another especially when you are struggling with your own dreams, but what if seeing the success of others is somehow letting you know that not only is success possible, but that yours is on the horizon.  What if that could provide a bit of inspiration instead of envy for you to keep going?  Wouldn’t that be something?  Instead of wallowing in the world of envy, you could be congratulating and celebrating with others as you trust that your own success will come when the time is right.

We have all experienced our own version of the green-eyed monster, so if you find yourself feeling a bit envious, just be easy with yourself.  Your time will come and your journey will be amazing, in its own way.  For now, just relax, regroup, trust the process, and remember why your dream is so important to begin with.  And if all else fails, stay off of social media sites, chances are you could use a little unplugged time anyways.

When You Have The Case of the “Have To-s”

January 23, 2014 by Lamisha

In the past few weeks, I have noticed more and more people have the case of the “have to-s”.

The case of the “have to’s” is a feeling that there is so much to be done and so little time to do it.  It’s brings a sense of obligation, but not necessarily motivation to complete certain tasks.  It is the feeling you might get when you go to a job you hate and do work that you just have to do to get paid.

Yuck!

We have all been there and many of us are there more frequently than not even when we are doing things to help build our vision for the future.  I know this because I have been there.

In the past few weeks, my list of “have to-s” seems to have grown.  I have emails to send, calls to make, articles and blog posts to write, and appointments to schedule and when the momentum gets moving so quickly and I find myself struggling to catch up, I feel drained, uninspired, and just plain blah!

Have you been there?

busyI’m sure you have.  Heck, you might be there right now, but I assure you, you don’t have to stay there forever.  I have found a few things to help a bit when you find yourself dreading all the things you just have to do.

  • Take A Break– What??? Yes, I know that your list is as long as your leg and you just don’t have time to take a break, but I assure you, you need it.  When things get moving so fast and your head is spinning and you are struggling to complete any one task, you need to take a break.   Take 5 minutes and get some fresh air.  Close your eyes and do some deep breathing exercises or take a little walk.  Whatever you do, just get away from it for a moment so you can come back refreshed.  It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it does wonders!
  • Change Your Language– Instead of thinking of the things on your list as obligations and things you have to do, reframe them to things you get to do!  The words we use have energy in them and “I have to go to work today” feels heavier than ” I get to go to work today”.  While you might not think that going to work is a very uplifting thing, there are many benefits you get from going to work, i.e. a paycheck.  So, if nothing else, think of the money you ‘get to earn’.  A simple change in your words can help change how you feel…true story!
  • Passion First– Something I talk about in my newsletter this month is passion vs productivity (if you haven’t signed up for my VIP List, you totally should).  Sometimes keeping your inspiration alive is as simple as starting your day with something that feeds your soul.  This might be a task you do for your side biz or a bit of writing or craft work.  Whatever it is, start the day with something you LOVE to do.  It can help your day flow better and turn your ‘have to-s’ into ‘want to-s’.
  • Simplify and Be Easy– A question I have had to ask myself many times is, do I really need to do that right this second or have I just set up an unrealistic expectation of myself?  Chances are if you are wanting to do 100 things in 24 hours and still sleep and eat etc. you might have overcommitted yourself.  Simplify things a bit.  So what you wanted to blog 5 days a week and you only have time for 2 this week because you are working on another project.  The world isn’t going to end, your readers aren’t going to leave you, and I promise things will be ok.  Let some things off your plate and make some doodle space for yourself.  Life is far too short to just be busy for busy-sake.

So there you have it!  A few tips to help when you are fighting off a case of the ‘have to-s’.

When You Just Want To Give Up…And A Free Gift

October 30, 2013 by Lamisha

For some people, a life coach is thought of as a personal cheerleader who is always happy, always inspiring, and always pushing you to turn that frown upside down even when things feel difficult.  The thing is, life can feel difficult sometimes and if life can feel that way, so can your dreams.

While I like to think I am in some ways a motivator and an inspirational voice to my clients, sometimes things just feel impossible.  I know that.  I get it.  I have experienced it.

Who hasn’t been in that space where you doubt why you started this journey to begin with.  When life keeps throwing curve balls your way and you aren’t sure which side is up, how can you do anything other than lose faith in your dreams???

It happens.  It sucks, but it happens.givingup

Our current reality is what we see and feel every day.  Each time we punch the clock, check our account balance, or ponder how to find time to do that thing we really need to do to make progress, reality is staring us in the eye.  Heck, sometimes it’s jumping up and down saying, “You can’t get rid of me!!!” And it is during those times that our inspiration hits rock bottom.  The Dream Crusher starts in on us telling us things that just aren’t true.

“You’re a fraud!”

“You will never write that book.”

“You just aren’t meant to do that.”

“You aren’t smart enough, strong enough, pretty enough, clear enough, professional enough…”

You get the idea.

It is in that moment you want to just give up altogether.  You think about throwing in the towel and raising your white flag because it all just seems too hard!!!

If you are in that place right now, I want you to know that you are not alone.

Every successful person in the world has at one time or another (likely many times), felt like they were never going to get there.  They have had their Dream Crusher sweep in and steal their dreams, leading them to believe it just isn’t meant to be.  They have heard the same voices and wanted to throw in the flag.  They have wondered why they keep going and have thought about just quitting altogether.

Only they don’t.

Instead, they take a step back.  Breathe a little, regroup, revise, revisit plans, and allow their inspiration to return.  They meet with friends who believe in their vision.  They sleep.  They go for walks.  They get some exercise and by golly they get back up and keep going.

They remember why they had this dream to begin with.  They remember how far they have come to make it happen.  They remember the passion and drive that brought them to where they are today.  But most of all, they remember the faith they had to get started in the first place and remind themselves that while they don’t have the answers now, they don’t have to have it all figured out at once.  It’s going to happen.  In fact, it already is happening before their very eyes.  They are learning what kind of strength and fortitude they truly have.

And so can you.

So if you are ever find yourself just wanting to give up, just breathe, relax, and remember why you started to begin with.  Your vision, your power, your purpose, your passion is why you started and those are the things that will keep you going.
