Giving the Gift of Self-Care

Welcome to The Holiday Sanity Blog Tour, 20 days of tips, tools, techniques, and perspectives from me (and 19 other coaches) with LOVE this holiday season. I’m so excited to be a part of this tour and connect with a group of like-minded coaches that have such a passion for helping others.

When Megan Hale & Jenn Scalia shared their vision for this blog tour with me, I knew I wanted to be a part of it because I know what it’s like to go through the crazy hustle & bustle of the holidays and end up in total overwhelm.  From the gifts you have to buy, to getting the house ready for guests, and doing everything else in between, this time of peace, joy, and happiness can often leave us feeling like a big ball of nerves with nothing but, stress and exhaustion.

In fact, as I type this, I am eyeballing the gifts to be wrapped, the boxes to be mailed, and the holiday cards that need to be sent and am feeling the stress big time.

So what can you do to ensure you remain sane (and dare I say relaxed) this holiday season?

Well, I have found a few simple things that have worked for me in the past and they are things that I am reminding myself of this holiday season.  And it all comes down to one thing…Self-Care.

As women, it can be hard to take time out of our busy schedules to focus on what we want and what we need on a regular day, not to mention during the holiday season, but it is imperative to ensure we are able to enjoy what this time of year brings.

You might be wondering how you can squeeze a little bit of time for yourself in when there is so much to be done?

Here’s how:

  • Put yourself first. This is by far one of the hardest things for us to do as women (and if you are a wife and mother too, this might be even more difficult for you to do), because we are so used to putting ourselves last.  We take care of work, the kids, the spouse, the house, etc. and leave our needs on the back burner until we have…more time.  We all know that more time never comes, so learning to put yourself first is key.  You can’t take care of anyone or anything if you don’t first care for yourself.  This can be as simple as getting in a bit of yoga before anyone wakes up or reading a good book in the tub at the end of the day.  Whatever it is, make your self-care your top priority and I assure you everything else will get done.
  • Create a ritual.  The thing about self-care is that it’s not a one-time or one-season deal.  We always have to be aware of creating the time and space to take care of ourselves and the best way to do that is to create a ritual or a habit that is easy for you to stick to.  This can take some experimenting to get totally clear, but it is 100% worth it.  To start, think of the things you love doing.  If you love to meditate or do yoga, how can you work that into your days/weeks with ease? What can you do add a bit more fun and flow into your day starting say…today? A self-care ritual doesn’t have to be complex, but it does need to resonate and feel good for you.  So figure out what you would love more of in your days and weeks and start doing that now!
  • Remember the magic of the season…and let go of the perfection. Part of the stress that comes during this time of year is based out of our distraction from what the season is really about.  As we struggle to make things ‘perfect’ by getting the home and gifts just right and we race to beat the clock for various deadlines, we miss the joy in the season.  The twinkling lights, the fun Christmas music, the holiday movies, and the laughter and fun that comes with spending time with family and friends.  Trying to make everything perfect is often the #1 way to get to exhaustion, overwhelm, and disappointment.  Let go a bit and let the holiday season be perfectly imperfect.  Your family would much rather spend time with YOU than see you run by in a flash trying to get everything done.  It’s time to enjoy yourself this season!
  • Mandatory F.U.N. I get it, you don’t have time for fun because you have approximately 1,342,343 things to do on your list! But, having a bit of fun is the best way I know how to ease up a little and take care of you.  When was the last time you had a good old fashioned game night or spent time with the kids playing the snow?  Remember that feeling you had as a kid when the holidays rolled around?  Get back to that feeling and enjoy yourself.  The years fly by enough on their own, there is no need to rush them along because you are stressing to get things done.  Kick up your heels and have a good laugh.  It’s good for the mind and the soul.
  • Create some space.  My last suggestion for giving yourself the gift of self-care is creating some extra space in your calendar and your days.  Spend some time alone, reflecting on the day and the year that is coming to an end.  You might choose to go for a walk on your own, meditate for a bit, or write in your gratitude journal, but whatever you choose to do, make sure you create some sacred time & space to do it…for you.  This time will allow you to create some space for you to take a few deep breaths and be fully present in the moment.  In fact, try that now as you read this.  Just close your eyes and breathe for a moment.  Now, doesn’t that feel better?

Taking care of yourself during the holiday season and beyond is the key to a happy life.  If you aren’t caring for yourself, you can’t possibly be of service to anyone else.  Enjoy the holidays for what they are, a time of sharing, caring, and love for one another and remember that love starts with you.

I’ve had so much fun connecting to so many amazing coaches who are passionate about helping others.  I’d love for you to have access to the rest of the tour so you don’t miss out on this valuable resource.

Living the Dream…What You Really Want

October 21, 2014 by Lamisha

One of the first things I ask people about when I am working with them is what they want in life.

Usually I get a list of items, dollar amounts, places they want to travel to, and a whole slew of other ‘stuff’ that comes with their dream life.  Whether it’s the career of their dreams, the relationship they have always desired, or their health, there is always ‘stuff’ that they want.

And when I ask them why they want what they want, I am often met with a pause in the conversation.

It’s not about proving that you are worth having the life of your dreams, because you are already worthy enough to have it.  Remember you can be, do, or have anything that your heart desires.

The reason I ask why, is because like the blocks that are holding us back, there is something that lies beneath the desire to be, have, or do anything

Take me for example.  When I took the leap to live the life of my dreams, I did so with the intention of creating my own business that I loved.  I wanted to help people know they too could craft a life they have always wanted and I absolutely adored the work.  But, after some insightful questions and a bit of digging from a coach I was working with at the time, I realized it’s something far deeper for me.

Underneath the sparkly dream of owning my own business and helping people are three values that are extremely important to me.

Freedom, family, and service.

I want to feel free in the work I do.

I want to have the flexibility and freedom to support my family from anywhere in the world and since I am a military spouse that is even more important to me.

And I want to be of service to my clients.

I want to help people do the things they never thought possible and live the life they have always wanted.

So, I have set out on a path to design a life that does just that.  That is what I am after.  Those are things that are important to me.  The extra “stuff” is just icing on the cake.

One of my clients has been working with me for several months and in that time we have worked on identifying what it is she truly wants out of life, giving herself permission to live that life, and helping her achieve it.  One of her core values is freedom.  She wants to have the freedom to choose to live the life of her dreams.  To travel, to learn, to grow, and to be who she wants to be, not who others perceive her to be.

In fact, most of my clients have freedom as one of their underlying values in the work we do together.  Whether it is freedom to spend their time & money how they want or the freedom to choose to live life on their own terms.

They want freedom.

So, why is knowing your underlying values important when you are creating the life of your dreams?

photo credit: Spiritual Quotes To Live By via photopin cc

It’s simple, because when you let go of the specific outcomes and focus on the values that are important to you, you loosen your grip on how it must happen and allow the energy of the Universe to work on your behalf to deliver all those values with beautiful circumstances wrapped up with a pretty bow.  And you realize you just created a life you never thought was possible.

You see, it’s when we get our hands too far into the mix that we can often make things harder for us to achieve.  But when you focus on values like freedom, flexibility, support, service, family, etc. you find that it’s much easier to welcome in the unexpected surprises that make life interesting & exciting.  You tend to go with the flow a lot easier and trust that everything you want in life can and will be yours.

So, when you think about the investments you are making into self-growth & expansion, don’t ask yourself if the ‘stuff’ is worth it.  Ask yourself if the freedom, flexibility, comfort, peace, etc. is worth it because that is what you are truly after.  It’s not about how you get to those feelings that is as important as the feeling itself.  Just like it’s not money you are after, it’s the amazing experiences that money allows you to buy that is what you are after.

Today, I invite you to take a look at your values.  What lies beneath the external ‘stuff’ you want in life?  Are you building the life of your dreams on a foundation of physical things or are you building it on a foundation of experiences and values like family, support, stability, flexibility, and freedom?

Know how you want to feel and what is truly important to you and you open the doors for those feelings to flow to you instantly.

And to take it a step further, what is one thing you can do today that will help you tap into those values.  Do it now, not sometime in the future.

I’d love to know what your #1 value is and what you can do today to cultivate that feeling.  Share in the comments below to get the energy moving.

A Lesson in Leaning Back

October 2, 2014 by Lamisha

I’ll be the first to admit when I want something, I can become hyper-focused on it. (Ok maybe a little obsessed.)

I think about it.  I visualize it. I analyze it. I talk about it.

I often jump into action mode quickly and can sometimes forget to listen to my heart.

When it comes to my business and my goals, I often lunge forward when what I truly need to do is lean back and trust.

Today I was reminded of the importance of leaning back.

I’ve been working a bit on expansion in my life and in my business and part of that means reaching outside my comfort zone.

I’m taking risks and stepping into the spotlight so much more than I have before.  It’s exciting, exhilarating, and honestly it feels so right.

But, in the midst of taking inspired action and clearing my own BS, I sometimes come to a point when I get too focused on the outcome.

I want results and I want them…last week.

The result?

Lots of resistance, disappointment, feelings of lack, and taking forced action as opposed to inspired. (It’s not pretty.)

But, lucky for me I have an amazing support system including my own business coach who reminds me when it’s time to just lean back.

So, what is leaning back really?

To put it simply, it’s trusting the process and staying the course.  It’s detaching from the results and knowing that everything is working out perfectly.  It also means that you know that whatever it is you are trying to manifest or achieve is already done.

It’s happening now.  The money, relationship, career, and clients you want are on the way.  When you stay the course and know it is all coming to you now, you don’t have to worry. You can just enjoy the ride.

I’ll give you another example of what happens when you lean back.

A friend of mine was having a few slow weeks in her business.  She was doing the work and trying hard to figure things out.  She was in action all the time, until one day when she decided she needed a break.  Both her mind & body needed a reprieve from all the action so she took a few days off. She lounged around in her comfy clothes and allowed herself some time to just rest.  In the middle of her second day of rest, she gets a call from a new client.

Leaning back allows the energy you have put into motion to do the work for you.

No more pushing, prodding, or forcing things to happen.

So if you find yourself feeling anxious and are being busy for the sake of being busy.  Try a different approach.

Just lean back. Let go. Let it flow, and remember you have the power to create & enjoy the life of your dreams.  Sometimes that means letting go of the reins so the powers of the Universe can work for you.

Do you feel like you are forcing a particular area of your life right now?  If so, what is it? Share in the comments below and commit to leaning back for a few days.

P.S.  Have you signed up for my VIP list?  If not you can do so here.  I have some fun giveaways & exclusive offers that I am working on for the next few months that are only accessible to my VIP List so get signed up so you don’t miss out.

Investing in YOU

September 25, 2014 by Lamisha

Do you know the difference between the people living the dream and those stuck just dreaming?

It boils down to one word: Investment

The people living the life of their dreams made a choice to invest in themselves.

The people that are stuck in dreamland didn’t.

It’s that simple.

Whether it is time, money, or energy, investing in yourself is a MUST if you are going to get from where you are to where you want to be.

So, when was the last time you invested in yourself?

Hmm…that long huh?

How’s that worked out for you?  Are you living the dream or stuck in dreamland?

There are probably 100 excuses you can give me this very second as to why you haven’t invested in yourself.  Maybe you think you don’t have the money, the time, or the energy to invest.  Maybe you have children, a family, commitments, a day job etc. that you think restrict your resources and you just aren’t sure how you can fit something else in.

I know better.  Those are just the excuses.

The truth is when you want something bad enough and you are ready to take the leap, you will find a way to make it happen.

You will carve out the time, hustle up the money, and you will be so inspired by the life you are living, energy won’t be a problem.

But it also comes down to value.

How much do you value YOU and what life can be for you?

Living the life of your dreams is possible as long as you don’t settle.

Close your eyes and imagine what you truly want out of life.  Not what you think you can get or what you think is possible. What do you want?

What’s the first step you can take to invest in YOU?

Not sure?

Start by investing your time in a 30-minute consultation to chat about your vision and how I can help you make it a reality because you ARE worth it.
