3 Things I No Longer Believe About Money Thanks to Denise Duffield-Thomas

July 7, 2015 by Lamisha

Money-Bootcamp-Secret

Money is always a funny topic to talk about and for so many people it’s wiggle in their seat uncomfortable.

I used to feel the same way before I had done any mindset work around the topic.

In fact, for a long time my relationship with money was…well tumultuous.

I had a love/hate relationship with it.

Never really knowing what it felt like to always have more than enough, I was anxious at the thought of money for anything.  Spending it, making it, asking for raises, and dealing with debt made me cringe.  I thought having just enough to get by was a good thing and never dreamed that one day I would be an entrepreneur who’s only income was based on my gifts and talents.

(GASP)

Parts of me believed money was always hard to get and keep.  Growing up in a single parent household, money was tight most of the time and I learned never to ask for much more than what I actually needed because I didn’t want to add to the stress and anxiety of making ends meet.

As soon as I was old enough to work, I got multiple jobs because I thought that is what I had to do to survive and contribute in the world.

What I didn’t realize is that it was all in my head and that my thoughts were creating my reality.

Since then, I’ve made some big shifts to my mindset to really dig in and change my relationship with money and one of the BIGGEST things I have done is make an investment in myself by way of Denise Duffield-Thomas and her Lucky Bitch Money Bootcamp.

In the last year I have learned SO much about my money mindset and how to shift it and it’s changed everything for me.

Thanks to Denise the top 3 things I no longer believe about money are:

1.  Money is a limited supply and if I have more, you get less.  I used to live with the atrocious belief that if I have more it means you get less or vice versa.  I thought that somewhere there was a big vat of money that was in circulation and if I had more than my ‘fair’ share, then someone else had to have less because….math.  But what I have learned is that not only is there MORE than enough to go around, I have the ability and control to manifest as much or as little as I want…when my mindset is in the right place.

2.  Money is hard.  From the time I started working, I thought I had to work long hours and several jobs to make enough money to live.  I pushed hard and at one point was working 3 jobs just to have a bit of extra spending money.  It wasn’t fun and no matter how many hours I worked or how much overtime I volunteered for, it seemed like I could never get ahead.  After working through the bootcamp (and soon moving through it a second time), I found that money didn’t have to be hard.  That with the right mindset and focus, money could flow to me with ease and grace and it does on a regular basis.

3.  You can’t do what you love AND make a boatload of cash.  When I graduated college I didn’t know anyone who was doing what they loved and making money doing it.  Honestly everyone I knew (adults included) was working in a job they didn’t necessarily hate (though some totally did) to make ends meet.  They chose the path of least resistance so they could work, live, and save for retirement when they were finally ready to live a life they loved.  I followed suit until my passion became louder than my logic and I decided to follow my heart.  Starting my business I still had no idea how I would make enough money to replace a full-time income, but what Denise showed me is that it is not only possible, but 100% probable when your mindset is in the right place. (Do you see a theme here?)

Now, I’ve taken what I have learned over the years about money and mindset and I use it to help other women do the things they once thought were impossible.  And I openly and honestly share my journey because I want you to know that this didn’t happen overnight.  I made an investment in changing my relationship with money by investing in Denise’s Lucky Bitch Money Bootcamp.

It’s been a game changer for me as a woman, a mother, a wife, and an entrepreneur.  But the truth is you don’t have to be all of those things for this to help you.  The insight and support Denise provides in her program is unlike anything I’ve ever done and this month she is closing out the old program and will be releasing the new program at a new, higher rate.

If shifting your mindset around money is something you feel called to do, I encourage you to check her out.  (Full-disclosure: I am an affiliate for Denise’s program only because I 100% believe in what she is doing and I am a part of her amazing community.  So, any purchases you make through the links I share with you will result in me being compensated. )

And if this is the first time you have ever heard about Denise, she is hosting a FREE webinar tonight at 7pm EST to discuss Mindset Shifts You Need to Create Passive Income.  It’s free and if you can’t make it live, sign-up using the link so you will get the recording.

You can also check out more info about the bootcamp here or check out her amazing free resources that I share with all of my clients because they are awesome!

If you are looking for even more mindset help in general, I am hosting a FREE Mindset Makeover Challenge in my Love Your Life Tribe on Facebook starting Monday July 13th and I’d love for you to join us.  This group is full of amazing women like YOU who are looking to create an open, airy, love-filled life of their dreams.  You will be in amazing company. 😉

Don't stress out. Breathe.

My word is FREEDOM…What’s yours? (Plus a free invitation for YOU.)

It feels like forever since my last post and that’s because I’ve been on vacation and piecing together my next steps.  The good news is I am back and I have a lot of GREAT things up my sleeve for you.  But, before I share all of that with you (soon I promise), I want to share some of my most recent realizations.

All this traveling I’ve been able to do this year so far, I realized I have had a theme bubbling up my entire life and it is exactly the kind of life I want to create.

That theme is FREEDOM.

Many (many) moons ago, I wouldn’t have known what it was because I was dealing with so much turmoil and strife, but today I can honestly look at my life as a whole and say what I truly desire is freedom in ALL forms.

I want to experience freedom in love (thank you SCOTUS for making that possible in all 50 states in the US finally).

I want to experience freedom in my finances (thank you Denise Duffield-Thomas for helping me clear my blocks to be open to more abundance.)

I want to experience freedom in my time and how I choose to spend my time on a daily basis (thanks boss-aka me!).

And I am finally embracing the fact that I want to experience freedom in what I create and share with YOU.

You see over the years, I’ve tried to make all of my desires fit nicely into little square boxes even though the contents were hanging out in odd (and fun) shapes and sizes.  I realized this weekend that the only thing clean, tidy, square boxes are good for are moving- you know when you have to pack a moving truck and feel like you are playing Tetris to make everything fit.

I don’t fit into one clean and tidy box and I bet you don’t either.

I’m a bit messy and oddly-shaped at times, but it’s what makes me unique.  What I desire today may change form in a few months, but that’s the true beauty of evolution and growth isn’t it?

Your desires, wishes, and dreams are as diverse as your experiences in this life and I want you to know it’s OKAY to have all those (sometimes conflicting) desires because in the end it’s all a part of YOU.

You will at times drop the things that are no longer serving you.  You will de-clutter your dreams, desires, and wishes and peel back the layers to reveal what is really important to you right here and right now.  And despite what gets left on the editing room floor, life will feel amazing for you because in the end YOU get to choose what stays and what goes.

My biggest realization over the last 2 weeks is the freedom that I not only desire and am now totally embracing, but also the freedom I help my clients attain.

And let’s be clear, freedom means something different to everyone.  For me it might be about time and money and for someone else it might be entirely about their career.  But, what I want YOU (and every other woman walking this planet) to know is that YOU have the FREEDOM to choose the life you live.  You have the FREEDOM to break free from whatever has you stuck and to choose differently.  But most of all you have the FREEDOM to decide the kind of life you live and experience while you are in this blessed body of yours.

And I want to help you get to that FREEDOM, whatever it means to you because I know that you have an amazing life to live and it’s time to make your dreams come alive starting NOW.

The Facebook Tribe I created a few months ago is under construction and with it comes a new name (TBA) and lots of awesome tools, tips, and challenges to help empower YOU to live that amazing life you want…right now.  And instead of waiting for all the new pieces to be in place, I’m inviting you to join us today, before everything is perfect and the new name is revealed.

In this group you will get access to free information, special offers, free coaching threads, inspiration, and lots of additional life-changing information that will empower you in truly beautiful ways.  This is phase 1 of the amazing new things to come, so hop on over and be one of the first people to know about what else is coming down the pipe.

Joining is simple just click here and request entry into the group.

P.S. I have a super fun and life-changing challenge coming up soon for people in the group only so make sure you join!

What really changes your life isn’t Motivation, it’s Inspiration

I used to think that I needed the motivation to do things-you know things like working out and eating better.

I’d look to my super-fit friends and think “Gosh if only I was motivated to do those things…”

Turns out it’s not about motivation at all…it’s ALL about inspiration.

Here’s why…

When we are motivated to do something, it’s likely from some external source.  We follow in someone else’s footsteps because we see the results they are getting and we want the same for ourselves.

Seems logical, but the problem with motivation is that it doesn’t last.  The fire we initially feel may last a few days, but then slowly our energy wains and we are back where we started.

Now inspiration is something entirely different.

Inspiration in my experience has always been that quiet voice or nudge I feel inside that says “Oh yeah that’s a great idea.”  It may not have as much fuel and fire as motivation does initially, but it lasts much longer.

Not only that, it also is typically connected with other inspirational thoughts and nudges that keep you going.

Imagine for a second you are an author writing a book.  Do you look for the motivation to write the book or do you have the inspired thoughts come through that cause you to begin writing?  Chances are it’s the inspiration that sends you back to the page.

The same thing works with how we create a life we love.  It’s not about being motivated to get stuff done or to move forward on our path.  It’s the sometimes whispers of inspiration that lead us to take action.

Does motivation work?  Yes to get you started, but if you are forcing yourself to keep going then it likely won’t last long.  And it will be a long, hard road to get to where you going and nobody wants that.

Inspiration on the other hand feels natural, much easier, and it flows.  At times when I am following my inspiration, it just feels like a no-brainer thing to do.  No stress, worry, or struggle.  Just EASE.

Now, doesn’t that sound better than working, pushing, and forcing things after your motivation wears off?

For some it sounds too good to be true, but I guarantee that inspiration works and it’s the best way to make your dreams come true.

It’s what I teach all of my clients and what I’d love to teach you.

So, tell me what is it that you feel inspired to do right now?  Share in the comments below.  And if you are interested in learning more about this easy, fun, freeing, and flowing way of doing things, schedule a FREE 30-Minute Consultation now and let’s chat!

7 Movie Messages & Universal Truths

Every Friday night in our household is Family Movie Night.

My son gets so excited to run up and grab one of his favorite movies so we can all snuggle up with a big bowl of popcorn and enjoy our end of the week treat.

And every single time we do this, I come away from the movie in utter amazement at the messages I receive and the reminders about how life really works.

So much so, that I have been inspired (time and again) to write a post about the specific messages because they are SO amazingly true.

Now, most of the movies we watch are kid’s movies, but I am always astounded by the wisdom that is sprinkled throughout and I hope that they ring true to you as much as they did for me.

Movie:  The Croods:

Quote: (Dad)”Those rules. They kept us ALIVE.” (Daughter) “That wasn’t LIVING…That was just NOT dying!”

The Universal message: Fear doesn’t just keep you ‘alive’, it also keeps you from truly living.

Food for thought: What have you allowed fear to keep you from truly living?

Movie:  Meet the Robinsons:

Quote: “Keep moving forward!”

The Universal message:  You are never done with living life.  With whatever mistakes, mishaps or perceived snafus that happen, keep moving forward is all you need to do and it always works out.

Food for thought:  Where do you need to keep moving forward?

Movie: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Quote: “There’s plenty of money out there. They print more every day. But this ticket— There are only five of them in the whole world, and that’s all there’s ever going to be. Only a dummy would give this up for something as common as money.”

The Universal message:  There is MORE than enough money to go around.  The only thing keep us from it is the thought that there is a limited supply.  It is printed every single day and when you focus on the ‘golden ticket’ moments of life, money flows effortlessly.

Food for thought:  Where are you seeing lack in your life and ignoring the ‘golden ticket’ moments of life? Isn’t it time for a change?

Movie:  Frozen

Quote: “Let it go!!!”

The Universal message:  Let go of the fear, the worry that you are too powerful and the way others think and feel about you.  The only thing that matters is LOVE.  Let the rest go. Oh, and when you are feeling like life is challenging or you know-you freeze an entire city, just let it go and have fun.  The rest will work itself out.

Food for thought:  What do you need to let go of right now?

Movie: Lego Movie

Quote: “Everything is AWESOME!!!”

The Universal message:  YES everything IS awesome when you choose to see it that way! And it’s even better when you give yourself permission to live your dream.

Food for thought:  How can you choose to see the awesome in life, because everything is indeed awesome.

Movie: Big Hero 6

Quote: “I’m not giving up on you. You don’t understand this yet, but people need you. So let’s get back to work.”

The Universal message: Don’t give up.  The world needs you and the Universe isn’t giving up on you or the brilliance you bring to the world.  Keep. Going.

Food for thought:  Where do you need to try again?

Movie: The Muppets

Quote: ” Life’s a happy song….I got everything that I need, right in front of me.  Nothing’s stopping me, Nothing I can’t be with you right her next to me.” ( I could keep going but you get the idea.)

The Universal message:  Life is amazing.  Always. And when you focus on the things right in front of you and experience the beauty that is surrounding you, it just gets better and better.  You have everything you need…and then some.

Food for thought:  What are you focusing on right now? On the beauty, joy, and love of life or something else?

Messages come in a variety of forms and they may mean something different to you.  What messages have you experienced or received recently?

Feel free to share them in the comments below.  They just might be a message someone else needs to read.  🙂

What finding your purpose really means.

Everyone wants a life they love with money, abundance, joy, peace, and passion for what they do right?

Sure! Who wouldn’t want that?

BUT-there are far too many women settling for ‘good enough’ because they aren’t sure how to get to that passionate place and while I work with many women on finding what lights them up and sets their soul on fire…my work is really about helping you tap into your purpose.

What finding your purpose really means is finding the thing that you are meant to do right here, right now.

It doesn’t necessarily mean it will be forever, but it will be something that lights you up and something you do that brings you joy.

And guess what…finding your purpose doesn’t necessarily mean making it your career…that part is entirely up to you.

If you are struggling to figure out your purpose here are a few tips to get you thinking in the right direction:

  • What do you feel called to do?  I’m sure you may be feeling the call to do something specific.  Maybe it’s to spend more time traveling, to do more writing, start a blog, or go volunteer at a local shelter.  What is it that is calling to you right now?  (Hint: The first thing that popped into your mind is IT…write it down.)
  • What do you LOVE to do? What kinds of things do you love to do?  What do you do because it simply brings you joy? What would you do for FREE? Think about it, make a list, and write it down.
  • What do you do with ease already? Think about the things people come to you for help with.  What is it that you do without thinking? What are you good at? What comes naturally to you? (Hint: If you aren’t sure, ask the people who know you best.)
  • What experiences of especially molded your life?  Think about your past and the BIG moments that really shifted things for you.  What did you need in those moments?  What were you looking for at the time?  What kinds of things did you need that you didn’t realize you needed until you got it?  Think about it and see what themes appear.

Once you have all that information together I want you to see if there are any common themes.  What pops up over and over again?  You may very well be thinking…”Why didn’t I think of that???”, because finding your purpose isn’t about locating it outside of yourself…it’s about recognizing what is already there.

And I want you to know that your purpose can change and evolve as much as you do, so don’t get stuck in thinking what you do now is what you will always do.  The beauty of life is that we have an amazing gift of choice and free will.  Use that freedom and enjoy the process because that is what it’s all about.

I want to hear from you.  What is your purpose?  Share in the comments below.

P.S.  If you haven’t signed up for the Soul Desire & Reiki Session giveaway, there is still time to get signed up.  Winners will be announced on June 2nd, so make sure you check out this post and get signed up here.
