15-Minute Magic

August 8, 2013 by Lamisha

Within the last week or two I have implemented a practice that has completely changed my daily life.  It is a “life hack” I heard about many years ago, but never tried, until a few weeks ago.  I applied it to my life in order to create more balance between my full-time job, coaching, writing, and family duties and it has worked wonders.  I soon realized this magical practice can even be applied to accomplishing your dreams, 15-minutes at a time.

If you are like me you probably have a laundry list of things to do (including laundry) and some days you aren’t sure how you can fit it all in, let alone make time for you to focus on the one big thing you really want to create in your life.  You also know that without that time and space, that thing may never manifest.

So how do you do it without locking yourself in a room for hours on end to finally make some headway?

You break it into 15-minute chunks.

I know you are saying that you can’t possibly get anything worthwhile accomplished in 15-minutes, but believe it or not, you can accomplish a lot in 15-minutes if you are totally focused on the task at hand.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Select something from your to-do list that you just haven’t found the time to do.

  2. Set a timer for exactly 15-minutes.
  3. Get to work.
  4. When the timer goes off, stop what you are doing and pat yourself on the back. You have just taken a tiny step toward accomplishing your goals.

Now, at this point if you are really on a roll and you have the time you can reset the timer and go for another 15-minutes and see where that gets you, or you may decide you want to do something else for 15-minutes.  The awesome thing about this practice is you can use it for anything. (If you are a parent, this works wonders with children especially when they have chores to do.)

Do you have some follow-up emails you have been meaning to send?  Some contacts you have been meaning to look up?  Need to research business cards/webpage designers/workshop ideas/need to contact that life coach you have been meaning to hire? Set your timer and go!

You may find some tasks work better with a 30-minute set up and that is ok too.  Feel free to mold this practice into something that works for you and your unique situation.

Using this practice allows you to take little steps toward accomplishing your dreams and the more you do it, the more inspired you become.  Soon you may find yourself setting the timer for much longer simply because you enjoy working on your dreams.  The key is to do a little bit everyday.

When you make your dreams a priority by doing a little each day, you will not only begin to feel better, but you will also see your dreams take shape before your very eyes.  Don’t believe me?  Try it and leave me a message in the comments below on how it worked for you.

Dreamer Highlight: D. Speller

August 6, 2013 by Lamisha

Travel

Wow it seems like August came in and the energy just took off right away!  I am a little behind in my Dreamer Highlight post, but I wanted to make sure to leave a little inspiration for you for the rest of the week ahead.

This week’s Dreamer Highlight does not include any links, but my hope is that the story tells it all.  D. Speller is a dear friend of mine from college who has inspired me in so many ways over the years.  Not only was he an outgoing, courageous, fly by the seat of his pants-type of guy in college, but he never once backed away from an adventure or experience that may add value and meaning to his life.

After graduating from college, he moved to Chicago to live the city life for a few years and to save some money in order to fulfill his ultimate dream of traveling around the world.  I never doubted that he would do so, but I never imagined he would set out on an adventure like the one he has had over the years.  When he left Chicago, he set out for South America, (Santiago, Chile )to be exact and as I lived vicariously through him, I couldn’t help but wonder where he got the courage and the passion to make his trek all over the world.  Traveling to Chicago, South America, Spain, and now to Australia he has become a trailblazer following his heart every step of the way.

Never once asking how he was going to do it, or where he would stay or who he would meet, he trusted his intuition and desire for adventure.  He is doing what many people only dream of and his story is an inspiration for us all to follow our hearts.

When we have a desire or a passion that burns within us, we often find ourselves questioning how to do it.  Where do we start?  What if we fail?  What do we need to do to get started?

Some don’t even get that far as they instead put it off for another week, month, or year when they have more money, more knowledge, more inspiration, and more excuses.

Sometimes it is enough to say, “Yes I want to do this, and I WILL.”  Setting the intention is sometimes all you need to set the wheels in motion for all the other pieces to fall into place.

What dream have you been putting off for another day?  There is no day like the present to get started.

Gratitude: Dreaming And Achieving

August 2, 2013 by Lamisha

gratitude2

If you would have told me 10 years, 5 years, or even a year ago that I would be taking a leap into the unknown of starting my own business, I would think you were nuts.  The old me would never have thought that I would have the ability, fortitude, and inspiration to start my own business and yet here I am.

While I am still in the very early stages of my business (and really client-wise nothing has changed since yesterday), I feel different.  I feel a sense of peace, excitement, and overall joy for what I have created and what is to come.  I am not worried about where my clients will come from or the amount of money I will make from my new venture.  In fact I feel the exact opposite.

Instead of worry, I am filled with faith.  Faith that those people who are meant to work with me will find me and as long as I follow my inspiration and intuition everything will fall into place.

Today, I am grateful, proud, and excited to say that what was once a dream for me is now reality and I can’t wait to help others make their thoughts, visions, and inspirations materialize.

I now know that no matter how big your dreams may seem or how difficult you perceive the path to be, nothing is impossible.  In fact, the process of creating the life of your dreams doesn’t even have to be hard!  It can be fun, exhilarating, and enjoyable no matter what it is.

Believe me when I say, if I can do it, you can too!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and spend some time envisioning the life of your dreams and believing it can happen!

A Dream Come True And a FREE Offer!!

August 1, 2013 by Lamisha

Cometrue

For the past few months I have been following my inspiration to complete various tasks in order to officially begin working with new clients.  I am excited to announce that today is the day!  While I could have muscled through and gotten this done last month, my intuition said to wait until August 1st and since I liked the idea of beginning something new at the beginning of a new month, I listened.

Through the process of following my inspiration to create my business I realized a few things.  I realized coaching is the work I am meant to do and that each and every dream I have will be accomplished eventually. I now know that as long as I follow my heart and listen to my intuition, I can’t go wrong.  Sure, I will still learn many lessons along the way, but at the end of the day, I am living the life of my dreams and you can too!

Wanna know how??

If you are interested in taking a step forward to make your dreams your reality and want to give coaching a try I would love to work with you.

With the start of my accomplishing my dream, I want to offer you a FREE 30-minute intro session that will give you an idea of what coaching can do for you.  In that session we can discuss what you would like to work on and how I can help you.  You can ask questions about the process or we can get specific and work on one specific area of concern.  Not sure what your dream life is or where to begin?  That’s ok too!

If you are interested in a FREE 30-minute session please feel free to contact me here or email me at lamisha@lifeoncedreamt.com.

Life Coach: Guide Not Guru

July 30, 2013 by Lamisha

guidance

A few months ago I heard one of my favorite radio personalities scoff at life coaches as some airy-fairy-hippy-thing that no one really needs.  He went on to explain how he didn’t understand the concept and that only really confused people needed a coach to live their lives.  It was in that moment I realized there are probably many people in the world that don’t know what life coaching is and have some assumptions about coaching that aren’t entirely true (or just simply wrong).  I thought it would be good to share my definition of a life coach and what exactly I do when I work with a client.

According to The Free Dictionary “a life coach is a person whose job is to improve the quality of his or her client’s life, by offering advice on professional and personal matters, such as career, health, personal relationships, etc.”

The idea that it is my job to improve my clients lives couldn’t be further from what I do.  In my work, I work with the client to help them identify challenges, frustrations, fears, etc. that may be limiting them in their lives.  From there we work together to come up with action steps, exercises etc. that will assist them in overcoming these factors and ultimately lead them to accomplish their goals/dreams.

I don’t like to think of myself as a guru of anything because it leads to the idea that I know it all, and I don’t.  What I like to think of myself as is a guide.  I help clients find their inner power to create the life of their dreams, by following the inspired path and their hearts.  I may provide homework, offer suggestions, and ask questions to dig deeper on any given issue, but ultimately it is up to my client’s to take the action steps necessary to achieve their dreams.  I am simply a guide to assist in the journey.

While I do have my own philosophy that I use for coaching, it is only one of many methods available.  I trust that the clients that are drawn to me and my work are meant to work with me while others may choose another coach, and that is okay.

If you would like more information about what I do or are interested in scheduling a free introductory session please visit “My Story” or email me at lamisha@lifeoncedreamt.com.
